Pinot Noir is a challenging variety to grow as it requires a carefully selected site, such as the cool climate of the Yarra Valley to be successful. Pinot Noir also needs careful attention in the vineyard, with yields kept low and gentle care in the winery to really shine. Our Pinot Noir vineyard was planted in 2003 and is beginning to mature and consistently produce outstanding fruit. This wine is made from a combination of Pinot Noir clones MV6, 114 and 115.

Tasting Notes
Classic Pinot Noir aromas of cherries, strawberries, raspberry, mushroom with a hint of spicy oak. A beautiful, textural wine with youthful fruit and lovely structure.
Vineyard Notes
2018 produced an unusual compressed vintage with many varieties ripening at the at the same time. The yields in the vineyard were low through bunch thinning to increase the intensity of flavour in the fruit. The berries were hand-picked at optimal ripeness in a single pass through the vineyard.
Winemaker Notes
The Black Label Pinot Noir was made with minimal intervention to allow the quality and integrity of the fruit to be maintained and not be overwhelmed. It was destemmed into small vats where it was hand plunged to gently extract flavours and the tannin. The wine was aged on lees for eight months to build mid-palate texture and complexity using a combination of old (90%) and new (10%) French oak barrels.
