Tasting Notes
A lovey and rich wine from an outstanding Yarra Valley vintage that is packed with flavours of raspberries and cherries mixed with hints of mushroom and forest floor. The palate reflects the vintage conditions with intense fruit character across the palate leading to a long finish.
Vineyard Notes
Although the Yarra Valley had a cool spring, the winter rains and consistent weather ensured a healthy flowering and good fruit set. From January fine and dry conditions prevailed, and with few very warm days, the conditions were ideal to produce fine, ripe and balanced fruit. The Estate Pinot comes from a single block of MV6 clone where the yields are kept to a minimum careful vineyard management and bunch thinning.
Winemaker Notes
The fruit was fermented in open vats and included 15% whole bunches to encourage perfume and fragrance in the finished wine. The ferment was hand plunged to gently extract the colour and tannins from the skins. After pressing the wine aged in French oak for ten months, (30% new oak) where the presence of lees promoted texture and mouth-feel.
