Tasting Notes
The Yarra Valley has proved an exceptional region for the production of quality Chardonnay and we are delighted that our Yarra Valley vineyard has sufficiently matured to allow the production of an Estate wine. A subtle yet sophisticated and elegant wine with lovely fruit flavours of white peach, melon, citrus and gentle oak. While this is a sensational wine to enjoy now, it will benefit from cellaring over the following 5 to 7 years.

Vineyard Notes
Balgownie’s long familiarity with growing and producing Chardonnay has been translated to the cooler climate of the Yarra Valley. The fruit for the Estate Chardonnay represents the best section of the Yarra Valley vineyards, with yields kept to a minimum through careful management and green harvesting. The grapes were hand-harvest in several passes through the vineyards to ensure that they were picked at their optimum ripeness.
Winemaker Notes
Our Estate Chardonnay was whole bunch pressed and provided free run juice with a balance of concentrated flavours, acid and notable elegance. Barrel fermentation took place over a six week period after which the wine was aged on lees for a further ten months. Regular batonnage (lees stirring) was employed to promote mid-palate complexity and mouthfeel. A proportion of the wine was fermented in oak to promote further complexity in the wine.
