Balgownie Estate Wines was the first vineyard planted in the Bendigo district in more than 80 years and began the re-emergence of Bendigo as a significant area for wine production. Balgownie Estate's Yarra Valley vineyards were planted in 2003 to Chardonnay and Pinot Noir the two varieties we believe are best suited to the region.
Balgownie Estate's name originates from the shire of Balgownie in Aberdeen, Scotland, where Stuart Anderson's forebears originated. The crest that adorns all of our Estate bottles is the "Coat of Arms" of Aberdeen.
